Educational Requirements for the Position

Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Two years of related work experience required. Working technical knowledge of current computer multimedia, computer use support, and/or course development and maintenance using emerging technologies, preferably in higher education or experience in a related field. Experience with Student Information Systems, Learning Management Systems (LMS) and/or other Student Success Management Systems preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position

Provides problem analysis and comprehensive assistance to users (classroom-based, hybrid and fully online) of the university’s Learning Management System, incorporated third party software and applications, and any associated technology as required to ensure the goals of the College of Osteopathic Medicine are successfully accomplished. Provides ongoing support, communication, consultation, and training activities to students, staff, and faculty related to academic technology integrations for program support. Serves as the support specialist for the Learning Managing System and growing academic technologies.

Primary Responsibilities

Assists with implementing and supporting academic technologies, specifically related to the Learning Management Systems (LMS) or associated/incorporated third-party software. Addresses issues or problems that users might be experiencing through testing and troubleshooting. Assists and supports faculty in the development of courses utilizing instructional technologies. Provides support to faculty in course maintenance for web-based delivery. Consults with faculty to determine appropriate academic technology and integration for course delivery. Maintains the curriculum framework in the Learning Management System (LMS). Coordinates with faculty and Enrollment Services to ensure that documents are properly uploaded and that course enrollments are accurate. Coordinates scheduling and logistics of web-based courses with appropriate university personnel. Continually researches and learns new techniques and tips that become available as technology improves and evolves, stays up to date on technology software and hardware, upgrades, introductions, and discoveries. Participates in continuing professional development activities. Provides insights to the Learning Management System extensions for programmatic accessibility and applicability. Maintains the Learning Management System (LMS) for year-round delivery of content. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications

Requires skills of current technologies, desktop applications, World Wide Web, and multimedia. Must be able to systematically analyze issues experienced by others to provide conclusive diagnoses and resolutions. Must be able to read and understand technical manuals and procedural documentation and/or be able to listen to, watch and understand similar materials in a multimedia-type or similar format. Possess the ability to conduct research into technology issues and products, and present ideas and concepts in user-friendly language. Keeps current on emerging applications of academic technology as related to program delivery. Ability to design, develop, and implement instructional guides for multimedia products. Ability to work collaboratively including effective communication, project management, and organizational skills. Must have knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
