Ball State University, Department of Theatre and Dance, invites applications for a Studio Theatre Technical Director and Lighting/Sound Shop Supervisor beginning July 1, 2023.

Position Function:
Supervise and maintain the Sound and Light Shops for all Department of Theatre and Dance productions. Responsible for all budgetary and the planning, construction, and mounting of scenery for all Studio theatre and dance productions; hire, train, supervise, and mentor support staff and student employees in the theatre production labs and shops; oversee the timely completion of all scenic and property elements for Department of Theatre and Dance University Theatre productions in Strother Theatre; maintain and supervise the effective maintenance of all Strother theatre facilities and related equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in theatre, dance, or related field or equivalent professional experience completed by date of employment. At least one year of experience in a position within the field of technical theatre. Excellent verbal communication skills; highly organized and effective problem solver; experience as a carpenter. Able to balance the teaching and production needs of an active undergraduate program. Ability to work collegially within a liberal arts setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Fine Arts degree in sound, lighting, or technical theatre. Over three years of experience in the area of sound, lights and/or technical direction. Knowledge of welding; Experience as an electrician and/or sound engineer. Experience as a live sound mixer.
