Job Summary
The Lead Custodian works with and acts as a lead worker for a group of custodians or other personnel engaged in custodial duties and does other related work as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Serves as a Lead Worker while performing custodial duties
- Directs work to be performed and conducts routine inspections during and after work completion for a designated assignment or project
- Trains custodians in proper methods and procedures used in performing all types of custodial work
- Instructs custodians in the use of custodial equipment and supplies; assist with record keeping and makes reports as required
- Assists in coordinating and assisting in covering assignments due to absenteeism and safe use of equipment and materials.
- Responds to custodial cleaning emergencies.
- Makes minor adjustments and/or report equipment repair needs.
- Provides custodial support for campus events by assisting and keeping records of work orders completed, checking fire extinguishers and reporting facility repair needs.
- Orders, stores, and delivers supplies, equipment, and materials to custodial closets
- May be required to perform some supervisor responsibilities in absence of the Supervising Custodian.
Experience supervising a small staff. Experience leading, directing, and instructing assigned personnel in custodial duties. Knowledge of proper cleaning methods. Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills. Experience operating power cleaning equipment. Able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted, and up to 100 lbs with assistance; ability to perform activities involving bending, stooping, and lifting above shoulders. Able to enforce policies and procedures and to lead by example of good work practices. Solid work record. Dependability, reliability, and good attendance record. Use custodial systems such as those to track work orders and two -way radios for communication. Maintains a safe work environment. Communicates with the University community in a civil manner. Follows all University and Departmental policies.

Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
Equivalent to two (2) years of related custodial experience required. Solid work record.
Physical Summary
Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.
Licenses / Certificates
A valid driver's license is required for this position. Once hired the employee must successfully complete the Defensive Driver Training Program provided by the State of California for California State University campuses.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,347 - $5,498 per month

Time Base
Full-time temporary position for one (1) year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
Schedule is as follows:
Monday - Friday, 12:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
