Educational Requirements for the Position

Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Kinesiology or closely related field. One year of experience in a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position

Performs managerial duties and services for athletic events at Sam Houston State University. Performs routine managerial work administering the daily operations and activities of the Athletics Department.

Primary Responsibilities

Manages activities of staff in the Athletic department. Coordinates the usage of athletic facilities for events. Works in the area of athletic facility management and oversees student employees within the department. Coordinates the usage of athletic facilities for events. Establishes goals and objectives for process improvements. Develops guidelines, procedures, and rules for student staff. Develops schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals of the Athletic Department. Coordinates and evaluates business functions such as purchasing, rentals, and usage. Monitors budget expenditures. Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of others. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications

Must have thorough understanding of sports rules, compliance regulations and conference recruiting rules and policies. May be required to teach in an academic program at the discretion of the Director of Athletics. Expected to develop an appropriate rapport with community and University personnel. Must be knowledgeable of all NCAA and conference rules. Must adhere to NCAA and conference bylaws. Must be supportive of institutional compliance and academic programs. Must report all NCAA and conference violations to proper personnel. This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
