Job Summary

Incumbents in this position perform custodial, janitorial, and maintenance duties in assigned areas, and other related work as assigned.
Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains neat and clean facilities for faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Disposes of trash and recyclable materials.
  • Maintains facility safety procedures and security measures.
  • Maintains and operates vacuums, wet/dry vacuums, buffers, auto scrubbers, blowers, etc. for maintaining carpets, tile floors, and exterior areas.
  • Organize custodial carts and closets.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Possesses knowledge of standard cleaning techniques and understands the characteristics of various surfaces to be cleaned.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to repeatedly perform bending, stooping, lifting, and reaching activities, such as pushing and pulling fully loaded custodial carts, reaching to clean blackboards, and bending and stooping to do spot cleaning, empty trash cans, etc.
  • Proficient in reading, speaking, and understanding at a level that is appropriate to the position.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience

Solid work history. Experience working in a university or large institution preferred.
Physical Summary

Heavy work - Job involves lifting more than 40 pounds. Approximately half of the incumbent's time will be spent walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,338 - $4,490 per month
Benefits

Excellent benefits through CalPERS (health, vision, dental), tuition fee waiver, generous vacation and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays each year.
Time Base

Full-time temporary position for one (1) year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date. Schedule is 12:00 am to 8:30 am, Monday through Friday.
