In the role of Research Technologist I working in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Our Research Technologist will under general direction carry out experimental design for sponsored research projects, including compilation and analysis of data generated. This position will support all aspects of experimental activities including participating in conception, design and execution of experiments, utilizing cell, tissue and small animal models, in an independent manner with appropriate guidance and/or supervision. Common analytic approaches utilizing molecular and cell biology techniques will form the majority of experimental work: Western blotting, PCR, flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry. Interpretation of data, especially as it relates to quality control and technical troubleshooting of experimental protocols is essential to effective performance in this position. Small animal husbandry will be a key component of the day-to-day responsibilities. Managing the lab operations including data management, organization, and storage, protocol maintenance, regulatory requirements and reporting, supply and reagent ordering and financial management will be integral to this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out routine and complex experiments.
  • Participate in small animal husbandry and maintenance of transgenic animals.
  • Monitor inventory and order lab supplies; carry out assigned duties for ordering, maintaining supply of inventory.
  • Prepare media and maintain cells by various culturing in techniques.
  • Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed.
  • Oversee daily lab operation in the absence of the supervisor or Principal Investigator.
  • Assist in development and implementation of research protocols.
  • Record and compile accurate records and communicate summaries of experimental results.
  • Help evaluate, interpret, and assess experimental data and quality control of assays.
  • Operate, calibrate and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

Thorough intellectual and technical knowledge of biology, chemistry, immunology, cancer biology, mathematics, documentation, and records management.

Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.

Position Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis

  • Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum Required Experience: 1 year

  • Preferred Education: Biological, medical or life sciences field
  • Preferred Experience: Prior independent management of experimental design, execution, and analysis; experience with supply and reagent ordering and basic financial management skills; writing and maintenance of experimental and regulatory/safety protocols in a biological, medical or life sciences environment
  • Field: Cancer biology, immunology, or similar molecular or cell biology field
