Job Summary

The Prospect Research Manager (Prospect Manager) under the general direction of the Executive Director for Development and Alumni Relations will leverage publicly available resources, organizationally paid membership information, prospect data, capacity ratings, contact reports, and other strategies to synthesize data into reports that drive strategic planning for gift officers and volunteers. This position builds, evaluates, maintains, and rates a qualified pool of prospects using wealth screening data and other available tools. The prospect manager will initialize and implement move’s management processes (PMATs) and assist the development team members with the maintenance of their fundraising portfolios. The position serves as a campus contact and resource for information regarding major donors and prospects and applies independent judgment to make decisions and interpret policies and procedures necessary for the identification, evaluation, and tracking of major gift prospects and donors.

Essential Duties

Prospect Management and Research:

  • Responsible for development of prospect and donor research, moves management (PMATs), and major/leadership gift pipeline building.
  • Prepares prospect reports for use by fundraisers and executive staff and other team members. Responsible for donor and prospect management through appropriate donor communications, cultivation events, and solicitation proposals via front-line fundraising staff or executive leadership.
  • Oversees individual, corporate, foundation, and other organizational donors/prospect research, attribute/action coding, database report generation, screenings and ratings, and prospect and donor briefing preparation.
  • Proactively identifies new and high-level leadership and campaign major gift leads and prospects through electronic alerts, analysis, screening information, data mining techniques, push technology, demographic searches, etc.
  • Reviews and refreshes prospect pools adding leads and prospects with $5,000+ estimated capacity to relationship manager portfolios.
  • Maintains and analyzes prospective and upgraded donor data and develops current and prospective donor lists and data.
  • Produces current and prospective donor profiles and helps determine appropriate solicitation ranges.
  • Organizes research for cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting donors and other prospects.
  • Assists and helps manage prospect management meetings and contributes to the overall organizational structure of the development meeting.
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance are required.
  • Must be able to occasionally drive locally.
  • Must be available to work weekends and evenings.
  • Performs other duties as requested

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of three to five years conducting prospect research and/or prospect management (PMATs), with demonstrated experience in prospect research methodology and practice.

Minimum Requirements

  • Employee must have strong writing and communication skills to develop individual proposals and prospect reports.
  • Must possess creative problem solving and a high level of interaction with other staff members.
  • Must be a detail-oriented problem solver with excellent analytical abilities.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with research tools and experience with fundraising databases are required.
  • Must be extremely organized and able to thrive in a fast-paced setting while maintaining precise attention to priorities, formats, procedures, details, and quality.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, writing skills, tact, and diplomacy are required for regular interaction with high-level internal and external constituents.
  • Requires excellent internal and external customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Requires fully proficient computer skills, including advanced working knowledge of MS Office, databases, internet research, and e-mail management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, data analytics, and/or information systems preferred.
