Job Summary
Working under the direction of the Director of Research Integrity and Compliance (DRIC) and the supervision of Sr. Research Compliance Specialist (SRCS)- The Research Compliance Specialist will be mainly responsible to provide services to the operation of Institutional Review Board (IRB).
Key Responsibilities
- Primarily focused on providing high quality services to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the University to protect research human subjects -
- Guides researchers and trainings to the campus community regarding IRB submission/review processes and procedures.
- Performs high quality and thorough pre-reviews of submitted IRB protocols and facilitates the distribution of protocols to the IRB for review, modification, and approval.
- Organizes IRB meetings, promptly and efficiently prepares and delivers all correspondences including agenda, minutes, modifications, and approval letters.
- Manages, archives, and destroys as appropriate IRB records in compliance with U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP) regulations.
Knowledge of and close to one year hands-on experience in the areas of research compliance (human subjects research protection regulations, etc.) especially as they are applied in a university setting, to make sure that federal, state laws as well as CSU Policies on Institutional Review Board (IRB) are applied correctly. Knowledge of and strong experience with an electronic IRB review system preferred. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to work with a wide range of constituency ranging from faculty to students to administration. Strong organizational and project management skills. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal including excellent grammar skills. Strong attention to detail. Ability to maintain strict stands of confidentiality in dealing with protected information. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with teams. Demonstrated courteous and effective interpersonal communication, problem solving and analytical skills and the ability to organize, prioritize and manage a complex workload in a fast-paced setting.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
- Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of related experience required.
- Certified IRB Professional (CIP) plus 1 year of related experience in research ethics regulations, human subjects research administration or human subjects research in higher education, are preferred.
Physical Summary
Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation
Hiring Range: Up to $4,667/month or $56,004/year commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,518- $6,791 per month

Time Base
Full-time temporary position for two years with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
