Job Summary
The Equipment Technician provides maintenance, calibration, and repair of precision electronic and complex scientific instrumentation for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the maintenance, calibration, and repair of precision electronic and complex scientific instrumentation within the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
- Designs and constructs circuitry and apparatus for scientific, instructional, and classroom use; orders and keeps inventories of required parts and supplies; and installs, overhauls, and/or modifies scientific instrumentation for laboratory use as needed.
- Instructs students and faculty in the proper and safe methods for use and care of the Department's instrumentation.
- Responsible for liquid nitrogen fills for the NMRs, as well as assisting with liquid helium fills for each instrument.
- Assist Chemistry/Biochemistry Department issue room operations as needed
- Assists CNSM Science Shops and other departments in the college in equipment maintenance and repair as needed.
- Other duties as assigned in the Department and/or in CNSM
Some knowledge of computers and computer control of scientific instruments is desirable. Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in construction, installation, maintenance, repair and operation of equipment in the area of specialization; knowledge of the repair and maintenance of tools and shop equipment, working knowledge of design and drafting procedures. Ability to perform complex troubleshooting; ability to design, fabricate, modify, and repair technical equipment of the specialty assignment following original or suggested plans.

Education and Experience
Equivalent to two years of journey-level experience in the maintenance, repair, and operation of applicable electronic and scientific equipment (preferentially in the academic setting) requiring construction and fabrication skills, some precision work, and trade or craft skills working with a variety of unique materials, or specialized knowledge and skill related to unusual equipment required.
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry and Electrical Engineering preferred.

Compensation
Hiring Range: $4,010 - $4,949 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,010 - $7,254 per month

Time Base
Full-time temporary position for (2) years with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
