In the role of Clinical Genomic Analyst working in our Health Research Center.

Responsibilities:

1.

Understands Sanger sequencing principles and results in the context of molecular diagnostics to analyze Sanger traces. Independently provide troubleshooting feedback to wet lab for Sanger data and create clinical Sanger reports.

2.

Maintains a professional level of knowledge of molecular biology and genetics to properly analyze molecular genetic test results; in particular, in the context of abnormal or atypical findings. Participates in and successfully completes all proficiency testing.

3.

Performs initial review/analysis of test results and assists the Lead Clinical Genomics Analyst in drafting preliminary patient reports for review by the laboratory director.

3a. Interprets and classifies genetic variants identified through clinical testing for review by the Lead Clinical Analyst.

4.

Assists in performing CLIA-level validation of new procedures, protocols, software, and translational medicine projects under the direction of Lead Clinical Genomics Analyst.

5.

Under the supervision of the Lead Clinical Genomics Analyst, assists in Next Generation Sequencing anlaysis as needed.

6.

Compiles and presents results of validation studies and works with Lead Clinical Genomics Analyst to determine the appropriateness of testing/research strategy.

7.

Adheres to the laboratory’s documented Quality Management Plan by conducting quality control and assurance measures for all reagents, procedures, and equipment used in the testing process, compiles records, and maintains records accordingly to ensure patient safety.

8.

Performs general duties such as ordering supplies, general lab housekeeping, and maintaining safety records. Participates in lab and other meetings as designated by the Lead Clinical Genomics Analyst.

9.

Operates, calibrates, maintains and troubleshoots both wet lab and key software equipment; notifies Lead Clinical Genomics Analyst when complex problems occur.

10.

Independently and accurately performs routine and complex molecular genetic tests, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, Sanger and next-generation sequencing as needed.

11.

Performs other duties as needed or indicated by Lead Clinical Genomics Analyst.

Certification:

ASCP Certified Technologist in Molecular Biology (MB) or Pass ASCP MB exam within 1 year
