Medical College of Wisconsin

Last Updated: 6/16/21

Job Description

The Medical College of Wisconin Cancer Center, Froedtert Health Network (FHN), Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW) are launching a $20M transformational Population Sciences (PopSci) and Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) Initiative in cancer research. This PopSci & COE Initiative will expand already robust PopSci and COE programs, which include a strong cadre of health care delivery, patient reported outcomes, biobehavioral oncology and survivorship researchers, as well as an expansive set of shared resources, including a regional Biorepository Core, GeoSpatial Epidemiology Core and a robust investigator initiated clinical trials pipeline with dedicated expertise in community based trials.

MCW is the only academic medical center in eastern Wisconsin, a diverse region of 25 counties which include urban, African American, Latinx, Tribal and rural communities. Some of these communities are challenged by significant disparities in cancer incidence and outcomes. Our Community Outreach and Engagement efforts are guided by a conceptual framework grounded in equity and justice, a biology to policy perspective, and systems change thinking. We seek to build capacity, identify knowledge gaps and create feedback loops within and outside our institutions leading to transformed partnerships to co-develop, deliver, evaluate and disseminate relevant programming to eliminate cancer disparities and achieve health equity.

Cancer is the top strategic priority of MCW. MCW, FHN and CHW are the inpatient and outpatient market share leaders in cancer care in our catchment area of Eastern Wisconsin. As part of this PopSci and COE Initiative, MCW CC will seek the recruitment of 10 faculty within the next 3 years.

Available Positions

In this inaugural year, MCW CC invites applications for four tenure-track faculty positions at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor with the long-term goal of developing novel population- and community-based approaches across the continuum of cancer care. Endowed chairs in PopSci & COE are available for qualified senior candidates with exceptional creativity and track record. Research areas of interest include epidemiology, behavioral and implementation sciences, survivorship, cancer disparities and health equity. Targeted areas include, but are not limited to, social and molecular epidemiology, obesity, tobacco, screening and early detection, HPV. and tobacco.

Who are we looking for?

Suitable candidates will have a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D/Ph.D. degrees. These positions provide attractive start-up packages and outstanding opportunities for collaboration with basic, translational, and clinical investigators. Successful candidates will have track records of creativity and productivity, a desire to integrate into our exciting, collaborative, and growing community of researchers, and a dedication to contribute to our values of diversity and openness. They will be expected to mount a productive and innovative research program, to obtain outside funding, and to participate actively in graduate and post-graduate teaching, training, and mentorship. Eastern Wisconsin is a vibrant, diverse metropolitan area. MCW is intent on attracting, developing, and retaining a diverse workforce and faculty body that reflects the community we serve. We value diversity of backgrounds, experience, thought, and perspectives to advance excellence in science and medicine. MCW is a welcoming campus community with a strong culture of collaboration, partnership, and engagement with our surrounding community.

How do you apply?

First consideration will be given to applications received by August 15, 2021. Please direct any questions to Dr. Melinda Stolley, Associate Director of PopSci and chair of the search committee (mstolley@mcw.edu). Qualified applicants should submit a cover letter of interest, CV, summary of research accomplishments and goals, and names and contact information of four references to www.mcw.edu/careers requisition #27711. MCW is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty and strongly encourages applications from individuals in groups that are underrepresented in the biomedical sciences.
