Ball State University welcomes applications for a Human Research Protection Program Manager to join our Office of Research Integrity (ORI) team. The ORI is a flexible, friendly workplace environment – we work closely together and enjoy being part of a collegial and supportive community of research administrators.
The ORI oversees many regulatory areas involved in research, including the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) program, the Institutional Review Board (IRB), the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Conflicts of Interests, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and others areas as they apply to research.
We work hand-in-hand with our faculty and students on creating the most ethical and safe research environment possible. The HRPP Manager will work closely with our research community to provide support and assistance in reviewing and preparing human research protocols for the Institutional Review Board and to provide training for students and faculty on best practices with the IRB.
Salary and benefit packages for this position are competitive, with salaries for this opportunity in the range of $53,000 to $55,000 annually. Ball State offers generous vacation time and a fantastic tuition remission package for employees and dependents.

Position Function: Oversee BSU’s Human Research Protection Program (HRPP). Oversee and run ongoing and newly emerging regulatory programs required by federal and state statutes within the Office of Research Integrity.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. At least two (2) years of research experience broadly (including experience with a thesis or dissertation if a graduate degree has been earned). This could also include research compliance experience and/or working in a research compliance office.
Minimum Other: Proficient with Microsoft Office; familiarity with an on-line submission system. Excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree, preferably in a medical/healthcare or social sciences related field.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with IRBNet, Cayuse Human Ethics, or other related online submission systems for research.
- Strong working knowledge of federal regulations and guidelines regarding human subjects research.
- Certified IRB Professional (or qualified to take CIP within two years of hire); or Certified IRB Manager (CIM).
- Familiarity with university research and research policies and procedures.
- Have at least 1 year of experience working with research review committees, including the Institutional Review Board (IRB).
- Familiarity with privacy regulations and practices, preferably related to HIPAA and FERPA.
- Have experience working with a sponsored projects office and federally funded research projects.
Preferred Other:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a wide range of people in a diverse community.
- Able to operate independently and as part of team.
- Skills in problem-solving.
- Policy and procedure development experience.
- Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.

The salary range for this position is: $53,000 – $55,000
