- Developing and Editing Division Communications Materials (including photo/video, web, social media, graphics, written communication, and other media platforms)
- Leadership and management of DSA Communications Department and division wide communication strategy
- Lead, develop, train, and coach various Communication subunits within DSA departments on marketing and communications ensuring alignment with University (and best practices) branding guidelines.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Excellent oral and written communication skills required to address a wide variety of audiences and constituency groups including via one-on-one meetings, group presentations, various social media platforms, written communication, etc. Ability to listen and take feedback from individuals and groups and implement with accuracy, direction, address issues, etc.
Experience in supervising full-time professional staff members including coaching, training, leading, managing, and building multi-generational and diverse groups of team members. Experience leading and providing constructive feedback on the work of professional staff and students. Excellent at effectively managing conflict between employees, including student employees, and between various stakeholders. Ability to maintain equanimity during time of resistance, urgent situations and or during emergencies. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and maintain a positive and respectful attitude. Evidence working with a diverse student population including underrepresented low-income, first generation to college, and other diverse student populations. Ability to maintain the highest level of discretion and management of confidential information. Experience with social media platforms and marketing techniques to reach stakeholder groups such as students, internal staff, university community, faculty, deans, associate deans, and prospective students. Must be able to engage a digital student audience. Experience with photo and video software to be able to train and guide graphic designers, photo/video production in delivering high quality digital assets. Experience and fluency in communications and platforms including, but not limited to Microsoft Teams, Maestro, and Constant Contact, etc. Experience and fluency in social media platforms including, but not limited to Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, etc. Working knowledge of technology platforms including, but not limited to Microsoft suite, Symplicity, Qualtrics, Zoom, Anthology Engage, etc.
Experience and fluency in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite including Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator and video editing software. Ability to commit and ensure compliance with accessibility requirements in communications technology and various communication platforms. Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills with ability to be both detail and big-picture oriented. Completes deadlines and follows outlined timelines to be able to manage the different communications platforms. Proven experience working effectively with colleagues across various units to ensure alignment with strategic communications initiatives and share department updates. Ability to produce innovative high quality digital marketing materials to be viewed by a variety of campus stakeholders. Minimum of seven years of experience communicating particularly sensitive information including ability to write messages around controversial or high-profile topics in a timely and efficient manner. Ability to pay high level of attention to detail including proven experience with editing, proofreading, and reviewing all graphics and media materials and identify any errors or corrections needed before distribution. Highly effective writing skills to address a wide variety of audiences including possessing thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation to develop and edit a wide variety of correspondence and written materials for reports, forms, and other print materials for the Student Affairs Division and departments. Must be able to develop written materials that will communicate effectively with students, staff, managers, and faculty.
Experience in creating effective and efficient workflows for projects. Must be able to create processes and outlines for staff to follow when completing projects and tasks. Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion including evidence of equity mindedness in previous experience with communications, marketing materials and media. Experience with utilizing an equity lens in employment practices and respectful interactions with others. Must be able to work a flexible schedule of some evenings and weekends for special events and programs. Ability to lift and carry approximately ~25 lbs. to and from office location to various programs/events, etc. Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position. Working knowledge of standard safe work practices. Possess or be eligible to possess a CA Driver's License to drive university vehicle.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university in communications, journalism, public relations, or job-related field required. Master's degree or doctorate in communications, journalism, public relations, or job-related field preferred. Five to seven years of progressively responsible professional and/or technical experience in communications, journalism, marketing, photo/video production, public affairs, or institutional marketing, preferably for a non-profit or government organization or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possess or be eligible to possess a valid CA License.
