Who We Are
JSI Research and Training Institute, Inc. (JSI), a leading public health research and consulting organization, is seeking a highly motivated Health Communication Consultant to work in the Health Services Division (HSD) on domestic health projects. Successful candidates will have a strong background and interest in health communication and public health, including developing messaging for diverse audiences; developing and implementing communication and social media strategy; producing content for a variety of channels; managing digital advertising campaigns, and applying health behavior change theory and practice to a diverse set of health challenges.

Our projects range from state- or county-wide social marketing campaigns to training and technical assistance projects with a variety of ongoing strategic communications needs. Specifically, the candidate should be comfortable providing technical assistance and training to public sector clients to assist them in meeting their communication goals. In addition to project work, the Health Communication Specialist will also actively participate in organizing and contributing to proposals for new public health-related projects at the local, state, and national levels. JSI’s work in Health Communication ( combines our decades of public health experience with strategies and approaches to support strategic communication and behavior change initiatives to improve people's lives.

This position will either be based and/or connected to JSI's Bow, NH office. Remote employment will be considered, but candidates must reside in a state where JSI is currently registered to do business (Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, DC, Wisconsin).

  • Work in close collaboration with project teams, including graphic designers, to design and develop culturally-appropriate, compelling print and online materials for a variety of audiences and communication channels, including social media.
  • Conduct and synthesize findings from qualitative research activities such as literature reviews, key informant interviews, and focus groups
  • Create, copyedit, and disseminate content for a variety of audiences and communication channels including Support evaluation of health communication projects, including estimating the reach and impact of communication activities/media placements through web and social media analytics
  • Manage projects with a high level of organization and capacity to meet deadlines
  • Develop training materials and provide technical assistance on communication planning and social media to public sector clients
  • Contribute to business development by writing proposals, developing relationships with potential clients, and generating new project opportunities
  • Work collaboratively and communicate frequently with project team members and other JSI staff working locally and in other JSI offices
  • Employ technology to work efficiently with remote teams
  • Facilitate internal and client meetings
  • Perform other tasks as assigned
  • Masters Degree in health communication, marketing, public health, or related field with preferred 1-2 years of relevant post master’s professional experience OR Bachelor’s degree in health communication, public health, or related field with 6+ years post-Bachelor’s experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including copyediting
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience developing and implementing communication plans, traditional and digital marketing strategies
  • Experience managing marketing campaigns, social media platforms (such as: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat) and knowledge of digital campaign monitoring systems such as Hootsuite and Meltwater
  • Strong aesthetic sense and understanding of good design principles (e.g., typography, branding, color theory)
  • Understanding of accessibility best practices, including for social media platforms
  • A passion for public health and working to improve health, equity, and safety
  • An entrepreneurial approach to potential opportunities and challenges and commitment to high-quality client-focused services
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with team members, clients, and other key stakeholders
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google products (Drive, Calendar, Docs, etc.)

  • Experience in research methodology and conducting primary research

This position’s starting annual salary range is $71,400 - $82,950, depending on years of experience. JSI offers competitive benefits including health insurance, dental, vision, and a 401k with a company match.
