Job Description

Ball State University strives to maintain an atmosphere of openness. This professional position supports these objectives, with its main functions being to (1) facilitate the University’s response to public records requests; and (2) coordinate the University’s overarching, multi-faceted campaign related to Freedom of Expression (“FoE”) on campus, including serving as the primary point-of-contact for campus community members regarding FoE-related matters. The position will also assist in contract review, legal research, and other projects as assigned.

Pay Range: $95,000-$110,000

Minimum Qualifications: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from a law school approved for accreditation by the American Bar Association. At least one year of relevant experience. Commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards; excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to translate complex issues for a diverse audience; strong interpersonal skills; flexibility; and ability to collaborate in a collegial manner with administrators, faculty, staff, students and others.

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience working for an institution of higher education or a public/governmental entity.

Required Certifications: A member in good standing of the Bar of the supreme court of the state in which the person practices law, and prompt eligibility for such license and standing in Indiana.
