Job Summary

The Assistant Provost for Institutional Clinical Education and Partnership is responsible for nurturing and building new clinical partnerships and relationships for CDU, in the context of variable levels of clinical partner readiness to serve as an excellent training site.

Essential Duties

Clinical Partnerships Liaison:

  • Create and maintain a database of current and potential clinical partners for CDU training programs.
  • Identify and track respective catchment areas, leadership teams, owners and the political and economic drivers of care for each partner.
  • Know the educational oversight/leadership structure for each clinical partner and meet regularly with the respective educational and administrative leaders at each of the clinical partners.
  • Be able to understand the individual needs and differences of the clinical partners so that CDU adds value to our clinical partners and measures/evaluates the impact of partners serving as clinical training sites.
  • Attend to the needs of partners to allow CDU to understand areas that require investment towards creating a robust training environment.
  • Conduct clinical training research and evaluation to ensure benefits to clinical partners are realized.
  • Meet regularly with CDU senior leadership, Deans and program directors to be able to broker/represent the training needs.
  • Broker the relationship between the clinical partners and the respective CDU leaders by setting up meetings to introduce key personnel at CDU and ensuring that CDU program leaders understand the contextual issues for all potential clinical partners.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Institutional Clinical Education:

  • Responsible for identifying and setting up clinical rotation sites for medical. residents, PA students, nursing students and radiology technology students.
  • Secure and maintain clinical affiliations, student placement, clinical site correspondence, affiliation agreements and student assignments.
  • Evaluate clinical sites for use by multiple programs at CDU.
  • Evaluate issues of overlap, redundancy and annual addition/revision of clinical sites.
  • Develop, implement and assess clinical site evaluation process.
  • Ensure smooth daily operations and logistics for the training programs.
  • Understand the required on-boarding process for students and maintain appropriate student records.
  • Prepare clear and concise written reports.
  • Participate in clinical skills training sessions and other clinical training activities.
  • Engage in documentation of reports for grants, self-studies, annual reports, etc. as assigned.
  • Participate in program, college, university committees, and attend related functions; attend program meetings.
  • Understand the major responsibilities of other interacting departments, (i.e. PA program, COM, SON, Radiology Tech, area health education centers and hospitals).
  • Handle highly confidential material for students, preceptors and institutions.
  • Know the clinical program calendars.
  • Review preceptor, clinical instructor, and trainee evaluations, along with clinical site evaluations to ensure “look back” and continuous program improvement.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s or Professional Degree (terminal degree preferred). Current or former certification or licensure (unencumbered – without disciplinary action) in a clinical profession is considered an advantage.
  • Know and understand accreditation and board licensure/certification requirements for clinical programs and participate in receiving and maintaining requirements.
  • Know and understand the connections between clinical training, the training environment and curriculum objectives with board certification and licensure.
  • Know basic understanding of the dynamics and objectives of the clinical education for residents, PA students, nursing students, medical students and radiology technology students.
  • Know and understand general human resource functions and principles.
  • Know and understand general financial and budgetary processes and principles.
  • Know and understand principles of record keeping and confidentiality (including HIPAA/FERPA compliance).
  • Proficient with computer applications, online resources and equipment utilized by the department and institution.
  • Participate in institutional, departmental, community, and/or national meetings to remain informed about current academic trends and processes.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 3 years of administration and leadership in clinical training programs. Knowledge of health systems in South LA (Preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Know and understand accreditation and board licensure/certification requirements for clinical programs and participate in receiving and maintaining requirements.
  • Know and understand the connections between clinical training, the training environment and curriculum objectives with board certification and licensure.
  • Know basic understanding of the dynamics and objectives of the clinical education for residents, PA students, nursing students, medical students and radiology technology students.
  • Know and understand general human resource functions and principles.
  • Know and understand general financial and budgetary processes and principles.
  • Know and understand principles of record keeping and confidentiality (including HIPAA/FERPA compliance).
  • Proficient with computer applications, online resources and equipment utilized by the department and institution.
  • Participate in institutional, departmental, community, and/or national meetings to remain informed about current academic trends and processes.
