Vice President, Round Rock Campus
Texas State University (TXST) seeks a visionary, experienced, entrepreneurial, collaborative, and strategic leader to serve as the inaugural vice president for the Round Rock Campus (VPRR). This position is the senior administrator at the Round Rock Campus. The VPRR will report directly to the university's president – Dr. Kelly Damphousse – and serve as a trusted advisor and member of the president's cabinet. Working in close partnership with academic affairs, student affairs, information technology, university advancement, research, finance, and support service leaders, the VPRR bears primary responsibility for managing the operation of the Round Rock Campus, developing the 101-acre campus to support multidisciplinary academic and research initiatives that make a meaningful impact at the local and state levels, and building strong relationships with a variety of internal and external constituents.
TXST employs more than 7,000 faculty, staff, and students, and offers 99 bachelor's, 92 master's and specialists, and 14 doctoral degree programs to its more than 38,000 students. TXST is located in central Texas, an area that is experiencing robust growth and opportunity. TXST's San Marcos Campus is in the southern portion of the Austin Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), and its Round Rock Campus is in the northern portion. With 2.2 million residents, the Austin MSA is the 28th largest and fastest growing MSA in the U.S. The Austin MSA is expected to pass 3 million in 2030 and 4.3 million in 2045.
TXST's Round Rock Campus houses communication disorders, health information management, physical therapy, radiation therapy, respiratory care, and St. David's School of Nursing. The university is entering the final stage of moving the remaining departments within the College of Health Professions from the San Marcos Campus to the Round Rock Campus, making the Round Rock Campus the hub of health science teaching, research, learning, and service. In addition to the health professions programs, a number of other degrees are also offered at Round Rock, including a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice, a Bachelor of Science in education, a Bachelor of Arts in mass communication, a Master of business administration, and a Master of Science in data analytics and information systems. For Fall 2022, 707 students were enrolled in courses on the Round Rock Campus only and another 593 students were enrolled in courses on both campuses. An aggressive and strategic seven-year plan to grow the Round Rock Campus to 10,000 students by 2030 is currently being finalized.
The new VPRR will play a key role in helping to transform and grow the Round Rock Campus. The Round Rock Campus is adjacent to a large branch of Austin Community College, several hospitals and medical facilities, and a Texas A&M University health science center. Opportunities exist to add new programs, both in health professions and non-health professions programs, to meet the present and future local and state workforce needs. Round Rock is currently a non-residential campus, but the university's master plan calls for the addition of housing in the future.
TXST continues to grow in national prominence, and the VPRR will be expected to shape and execute strategies on the Round Rock Campus that further elevate its reputation. In research, the university is currently Carnegie classified as a Doctoral University: High Research Activity and is laser-focused on raising its national research profile and becoming an R1 university. Given its location in the heart of the Texas Innovation Corridor between San Antonio and Austin and its burgeoning research and development park, TXST is well-positioned for developing robust partnerships that will elevate the research enterprise to even greater heights and spur entrepreneurial activity in the region.
