- This position is posted as Regional Director, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Director, Business & Educational Partnerships.
- Travels up to 50% for employer/partnership cultivation and participation in partnership and system-wide events as an NAU representative.
- This position is located in the Southwestern Region and serves the Yuma and La Paz counties. Remote work is a possibility in conjunction with the possibility of on-site work.
NAU Online and Innovative Educational Initiatives is seeking an experienced and motivated Regional Director to join our team. The Regional Director is responsible for the development and cultivation of student and faculty centric strategic partnerships for the university. These partnerships across government partners, public agencies, and other strategic partners will accelerate enrollment, employment, hands-on skill development, and overall student success and experience. The successful candidate:
- Serves as the primary interface between the university and the external community regarding outreach and corporate engagement opportunities designed to provide experiential education opportunities for students,
- Creates impactful industry partnership opportunities for faculty, and programs designed to educate stakeholders regarding the value of partnering with the university.
- Strategizes, initiates, and establishes contact with external industry, governmental agencies, non-government agencies, and community organizations.
- Conceptualizes, develops, maintains, and expands strong stakeholder relations with external and internal partners.
External Collaboration - 45%
- Works on identifying, marketing, and delivering new and innovative training opportunities for county businesses and clients and works closely with institutions and organizations that focus on regional workforce development and industry specific training.
- Leads strategic partnership development with internal/community/external stakeholders to facilitate the planning and development of collaborative partnerships and initiatives that impact student success outcomes and that expand pathways for equitable access to regional educational opportunities ensuring alignment with the University's strategic roadmap.
- Lead and manage the development and marketing of innovative educational and training services to business, industry and not-for-profit organizations.
- Establish partnerships and collaborate effectively with local, regional and state economic and workforce development agencies to promote development of a skilled workforce to meet regional needs.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership with local community-based organizations or governmental entities to serve individuals and groups to achieve their career and educational goals.
- Maintain a working knowledge of industry workforce development trends in Arizona and make recommendations for continuous improvement by active involvement in relevant professional organizations and groups.
Internal Collaboration - 40%
- Collaborate with NAU's internal and external stakeholders to lead, develop, implement and promote a partner-centric talent development programming. Such talent development offerings - existing and new - degree and certificate programs marketing primarily to Corporate HR and Learning and Development personnel, K-12 School Administrators, and Community College staff, faculty, and administrators will require considerable cross-functional collaboration, leadership, and deep understanding and strategic thinking concerning university, regional, and college outcomes and objectives.
- Works seamlessly with NAU Vice Presidents, Academic Deans, and their respective teams to form cross-regional, cross-college teams, determine, and deliver goals, strategies, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Engages in a consultative manner with C-suite executives at large corporations to generate mutually beneficial and value-added partnerships.
Supervision - 15%
- Provides selection, training, and on-going feedback and development of subordinate staff.
- Mentors, encourages, and models exceptional performance.
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
- 5-7 years of relevant experience.
- 3-5 years of management experience.
- Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Master's degree in Business or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a combination of business development, operations, and developing relationships with corporate leaders and academic professionals with at least seven years of experience in higher education.
- Extensive experience with strategic program development and implementation, evaluation and reporting, and building community educational partnerships.
- Experience leading and facilitating collaborative work across university divisions, departments, academic programs, and diverse communities.
- Experience working and building collaborative partnerships with a broad range of organizations including public agencies, K-12, non-profits, community-based, business, governmental, and national organizations.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of advanced principles, techniques and theory in professional discipline or thorough general business management knowledge. Must possess excellent organizational skills, capable of efficiently managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Knowledge of the issues faced by C-level heads of HR / People & Talent operations.

- Strong prospecting skills and proficiency in account planning and development of high-level client relationships.

- Ability to conceptualize, plan, and bring to fruition high-stakes initiatives with support by diverse stakeholders (i.e. faculty, executive leadership, staff, students, and community); ability to manage highly complex budgets and multiple projects.
- Ability to prioritize and execute a wide range of projects simultaneously and produce various reports for key university and community constituency groups.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to express ideas clearly and effectively.
- Ability to analyze and track performance data, and to perform in-depth analysis to interpret and evaluate obscure/vague information in the development of new solutions for complex technical and/or managerial problems.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in comparing and recommending numerous solutions.
- Ability to perform analytical and inductive thinking required in extensively adapting policies, procedures and methods to fit unusual or complex situations.
- Must possess the ability to lead, mentor and motivate high levels of performance within an integrated, professional team working across the university community and with key external constituents.

- Intermediate level proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary range begins at $95,809. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System or the Optional Retirement Program; 22 days of vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Service Professionals are hired on a contract basis, renewable each 6 months according to terms of the Conditions of Professional Service. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of employment. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of employment.
