Position Description:

Purpose

The Office of Research helps to facilitate life-saving biomedical research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Nine distinct units provide specialized support to meet the administrative needs of our investigators and research staff, and together we coordinate, regulate, and monitor research studies. Within our Research Systems unit, our technical team provides training and learning support for MCW enterprise research applications.

The Research Systems eLearning Specialist designs, develops, maintains, and delivers instructional web and media content for the enterprise research applications. The Specialist provides virtual training in one-on-one and group settings for these applications, and also aids in developing support documentation and resources for departmental staff, researchers, and affiliated research personnel.

Primary Functions

  • Design and develop high-quality eLearning content for enterprise research applications, including training materials, training aids, evaluation/assessment instruments, or other media content as needed.
  • Schedule and deliver 1-on-1 virtual training with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or WebEx.
  • Manage and maintain existing Learning Management System (LMS) and Content Management System (CMS) content.
  • Work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to create new training content for a variety of audiences.
  • Use adult learning practices and technologies for needed outcomes. This may require providing learning materials in a variety of formats, including print, graphics, audio, and animation.
  • Provide video production, technical support, and other media support to meet business needs.
  • Utilize judgment and experience to adapt classes to meet trainees’ needs.
  • Proactively seek feedback from managers and customers to identify training needs and effectively manage multiple projects from inception to completion.
  • Monitor effectiveness and quality of training programs and recommend changes to increase effectiveness as needed.
  • Evaluate and assess input from trainees and devise follow-up training to meet individual needs.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging instructional methods in all instructional modalities and relevant technologies.
  • Support Help Desk for enterprise research systems applications, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Preferred Schedule:
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.


Position Requirements:

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

Requisite skills include:

  • Experience with visual design, storyboarding, course-building and editing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in course authoring software: Adobe Captivate and Articulate Storyline.
  • Experience with Adobe content tools, preferably Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere and After Effects.
  • Experience in designing scalable learning solutions (classroom, virtual, or online).
  • Proficient using online meeting software such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or WebEx to deliver virtual group or 1-on-1 training.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language. Excellent listening, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision, prioritizing work to meet timelines.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and attentiveness to detail required.

Preferred skills include:

  • Experience with Qualtrics, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Muse is desirable, but not required

Organizational Structure

Building: MACC Fund Research Center (MFRC); flexibility for virtual and/or hybrid work is included in this role.

Appropriate experience may be substituted on equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university

Minimum Required Experience: 3 years work experience with a proven track record in development of
eLearning content
