Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES: The department of Sociology & Anthropology invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty appointment as assistant professor and field education director in Social Work. The appointment will commence in 1 September, 2022. New Jersey City University has a new Bachelor of Social Work program and the position of Director of Field Education is an integral role to its success.

The Director of Field Education provides leadership in all aspects of the BSW Field Education Program. The Field Education program is governed by the mission, goals, objectives, curriculum, policies, and standards of the CSWE and is the signature pedagogy of social work education. Field education affords students the opportunity to promote the development of professional competencies. Job duties include teaching three (3) social work courses and/or sociology courses per fall and spring semesters. Additional duties and responsibilities related to the field education office include: 1) Recruit, assess, and approve field education agencies and field instructors; 2) Secure affiliation agreements between field practicum sites and the University; 3) Assign students to field education agencies; 4) Monitor and evaluate student's progress in field practicum settings; 5) Maintain field education records; 6) Resolve problems and concerns related to field education; 7) Identify training needs of field instructors; 8) Plan and implement field instructor orientations and training sessions; 9) Plan and implement student orientations; 10) Administer and update the BSW program Field Education Manual as needed; 11) Serve as a conduit between the BSW program and the field education agencies by transmitting significant information pertaining to the operation of field education and the overall operation of the BSW Program; and 12) Ensures the overall administration of the field education office is in compliance with the Council on Social Work Education Accreditation Standards.

EDUCATION : Masters of Social Work degree from an accredited university and a License Social Work (LSW) in New Jersey.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years post master's social work practice experience; minimum of two years of experience as a community agency-based field instructor; and demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse population are a must. Experience with program development, administration, and evaluation; exceptional communication and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple demands and responsibilities; expertise in working with groups are the desired qualifications. Must have a valid drivers’ license and vehicle to travel to various field practicum agencies. Teaching experience required.
