Job Description

Woodbury University invites applications for a full-time Assistant, or Associate Professor to develop and pilot curricula for a new Environmental Science program. Housed in the College of Liberal Arts, the B.S. in Environmental Science is initially supported by a Title V Hispanic Serving Institution Sustainability Programs grant. The faculty member will have a master’s degree or higher, or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline, at least three years’ experience in postsecondary instruction, experience in curriculum design, and professional expertise in environmental science. Central to the curriculum are interdisciplinary, problem-based lab courses that challenge students to develop links between the theory and practice of environmental science and the possible manifestations of scientific discovery in real-world, social contexts.

Successful applicants will teach and conduct research in at least one of the following areas: (1) environmental justice, (2) systems modeling of human-natural systems, (3) sustainable energy, (4) natural resource economics, and (5) environmental data science. We seek applicants with interdisciplinary approaches who can work collaboratively with our Sustainable Practices and Construction Management programs. Relevant research areas may include modeling of natural-human systems and empirical quantitative modeling; the use of data and mathematical models for the analysis of the ecosystem services of interconnected food, water and/or energy systems that impact human well-being.

Candidates should have quantitative skills in one or more of the following areas: econometrics, causal data analysis, integration and analysis of large datasets, social and behavioral field experiments, spatial statistics, predictive and computational modeling of food-water-energy systems, environmental valuation (including environmental accounting and contingent valuation) in forest, marine, and coastal settings, and agricultural economics, or other commensurate approaches.

Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with teaching experience, professional background, and the degrees held. Contract renewal and rank advancement at Woodbury are contingent upon satisfying departmental and university criteria, which include effective teaching, meaningful engagement through creative work, scholarship, and service to the University. Woodbury University is a non-tenure granting institution.

The position begins in August 2022.
