City Tech invites applications for a tenure track position at the assistant professor level to begin during the 2021-2022 academic year. The Construction Management and Civil Engineering Department is located in the vibrant and technologically diverse community of DUMBO Brooklyn. The department is convenient to NYC’s Subway system and within walking distance of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, which provide easy access to NYC’s booming construction sector with ample opportunities for research and consulting collaborations.
The Department of Construction Management and Civil Engineering (CMCE) is a growing department with over 600 students. It is the only department to offer a bachelor degree in Construction Engineering in CUNY and is ABET accredited. The department also offers associate degree programs in Civil Engineering Technology (ABET accredited) and Construction Management Technology.
The candidate should have a history of professional practice. In addition to teaching and scholarly work, this position offers an opportunity to develop curriculum and programs in a dynamic and highly regarded department with strong links to industry.
Reporting to the Chair of the Construction Management and Civil Engineering department, the successful candidate will be expected to:
- Perform teaching, research and guidance duties.
- Engage in program development, recruitment, and student advisement. Committee participation is
expected, as well as other department, college, university and/or community service.
- Continue professional growth and scholarly contributions to the field.
- Day, evening, and weekend teaching and department duties may be required.
A PhD in structural engineering, civil engineering or a related field. Candidates who qualify for a doctoral equivalency (Master’s degree + professional licensure, e,g,: PE, RA, LS,) and extensive professional experience in related fields will be considered.
- Knowledge and/or expertise in diverse segments of the CMCE Department curriculum such as statics; strength of materials; steel design and fabrication; concrete design; structural materials; bridge design and technology; and sustainable, smart and resilient infrastructure.
- Higher education teaching experience preferred.
- History of professional practice is highly preferred.
