Usual duties:
The Department of Art at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor of Art to begin August 2023.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to a socially engaged art practice and have the ability to teach graduate studio courses in Art and Social Practice. Evidence of abilities to teach undergraduate courses in one or more of our other BFA Programs (animation, graphic design, photography, studio art) is also required.

Duties include teaching 3 courses per semester and service on departmental committees.

Degree Requirements:
Candidates must possess an MFA in art or terminal degree in a related field.

Experience Requirements:
Teaching experience at the undergraduate and or graduate level is required. The successful candidate will have an ongoing, sustainable, and engaged art practice, and be prepared to be an active faculty member who is engaged with the department, college, university, local and professional communities.

The Department of Art www.shsu.edu/art is experiencing sustained enrollment growth. About 650 undergraduates major in Graphic Design, Studio Art, Photography, and Animation, and we offer anMFAin Art and Social Practice.

The new Dana G. Hoyt Fine Arts Building includes state-of-the-art lecture halls and classrooms, studios, computer labs, and galleries. In addition to the University Art Gallery on campus, the Department exhibits student work at a Satellite Gallery in downtown Huntsville and hasMFAstudios in the Natural Science and Art Research Center a few blocks away. Sam Houston State University is located 70 miles north of Houston in Huntsville, TX, surrounded by the Sam Houston National Forest.
