Overview:
The Biology Department at Salem State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position in environmental and marine biology to begin in September 2023. Teaching responsibilities may include introductory biology and non-major’s courses, a sophomore-level evolution or ecology course, and upper-level marine biology courses such as marine botany, oceanography, fish biology, aquaculture, etc. The ideal candidate will have expertise in marine biology/ecology as well as the ability to engage students in field experiences.
The biology department educates future scientists in general biology with the options to focus on Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Marine and Aquaculture, and Environmental Biology. In addition, the department provides general education for scientific reasoning as well as basic anatomy and physiology, microbiology, neuroanatomy for the nursing, athletic training, and occupational therapy departments.
Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, scholarship and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.
Required Qualifications:

PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline (ecology, evolution, marine/aquatic biology)

Demonstrated experience teaching at the college/university level

Experience teaching traditional lectures, lab settings and online modalites
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with a diverse student body
- Experience teaching both introductory and upper level courses
- Field biology experience that can be brought into the classroom
