Job Description

Overview:
The computer science department at Salem State University is seeking applicants for a full time, tenure track faculty position. The successful candidate will demonstrate a clear vision of the future of the computing field in general and the information technology discipline in particular; show evidence of a commitment to the teaching-learning process in a four-year undergraduate program; and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. Teaching assignments will include introductory, intermediate-level, and advanced-level information technology courses and computer science courses.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, scholarship and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.

Required Qualifications:

The position requires a PhD for the rank of assistant professor. PhD candidates (ABD) with a master’s degree in information technology or a closely related field are welcome to apply. Completion of PhD is required by August 2023. Experience in teaching introductory, intermediate-level, and advanced-level information technology courses; and experience applying the latest computing technologies and innovative approaches to teaching one or more of the following: information management systems, information security, computer networks, web systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in information technology strongly preferred; experience in teaching upper-level information technology and computer science courses; professional applied experience in information technology in general and in one or more of the following in particular: information security, databases, networking, or web systems; current teaching experience; industry experience and/or research record in one or more of the following areas: information security, information management systems, computer networks, and web systems; demonstrated ability and willingness to apply innovative approaches and the latest information technologies to teaching; and experience in and a commitment to teaching in a multicultural, multiracial environment with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
