Ball State University

The Department of Media is seeking candidates with a J.D., Ph.D or terminal degree, in Media or related field who have an interest in law and ethics and the desire to engage undergraduate students in the study of both.

The candidate must have good interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work in a department that is cooperative and collegial. Qualified candidates should also have an interest in teaching classes related to the foundations of media and/or diversity, equity and inclusion. Research areas of interest should include, but are not limited to, legal and ethical issues in media.

Lifelong learning at Ball State University extends educational engagement beyond the classroom and includes learning for professional development, personal enrichment, or other goals throughout one’s lifetime. Faculty will be expected to participate in the department’s, college’s, and university’s lifelong learning opportunities when available and may be assigned teaching responsibility in this area as part of their overall responsibilities.

Position Function: Faculty in the Department of Media are expected to take part in curriculum development, advising student organizations, recruitment, and retention efforts, and participating in other areas of service as defined by the department’s promotion and tenure policies. Teaching at the Graduate level will be encouraged.

Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate, terminal degree or be ABD (with all degree requirements to be completed by the time of appointment), in media or a related area of study from an accredited institution. Tenure line rank will be Assistant Professor. Assistant Professor Candidates should have teaching or teaching assistant experience and a beginning track record in scholarship with potential funding.

Preferred Qualifications: J.D. and teaching experience in media related courses at the collegiate level. Online teaching experience is desirable.
