Position:

The department of Manufacturing Systems Engineering and Management (MSEM) at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a Department Chair at the rank of professor. We seek candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of CSU Northridge (CSUN) through their teaching, research, and service.

The Chair of MSEM will lead the department to further its excellence in teaching and research through innovation and collaboration. Under the Chair’s leadership the department will expand its work with local, national, and international industry and university partners. In addition to this strategic planning, the Chair will be responsible for departmental budgets, personnel and facility management, faculty development, student recruitment and retention, curriculum development, and other required duties. The Chair will report to the Dean and will work collaboratively with other departments in the College of Engineering and Computer Science. The initial appointment is for a three-year term and will be eligible for a re-appointment for an additional three years.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will help the Department achieve equitable outcomes for all students through teaching, student mentorship, scholarship, and service.

The qualified candidate will have:

  • Required
    • PhD degree in Engineering Management, Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a closely related field
    • Experience at the rank of professor, or experience at the rank of associate professor with:
      • Evidence of scholarly contributions since promotion to associate professor in areas related to Engineering Management, Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Materials Engineering, or closely related field
      • Evidence of holding positions of responsibility in professional organizations since promotion to associate professor
      • Evidence of service since promotion to associate professor at the department, college, and university levels
      • Evidence of strong undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring as measured by student advisement experience, student/peer evaluations, and 10 or more years of experience teaching in areas related to Engineering Management, Manufacturing Systems Engineering, or Materials Engineering
    • Evidence of administrative leadership and experience in higher education such as the director of a research center, chair/head of an academic department, or comparable position with responsibilities that include budgeting, strategic planning, personnel management, performance reviews, promotion and tenure decisions.
  • Preferred
    • Evidence of academic success as evidenced by publications in peer reviewed journals, student and peer teaching evaluations, and external grant support
    • Interest in and knowledge of the MSEM department, including a vision of how the candidate plans to lead the program over the next three years
    • Interest in and knowledge of the CSUN, including a vision of the department’s role in the institution
    • Experience working effectively within an ethnically diverse population of students that includes first-generation college students from traditionally underserved populations
    • Experience evaluating the performance of faculty and staff members
    • Familiarity and involvement with higher education systems including ABET accreditation
    • A record of leading research projects with other faculty members and students that resulted in publications in peer reviewed journals
    • A record of leading industrial partnerships with proven impact on student learning, particularly for student populations similar to CSUN’s
    • A record of collaborating with faculty members to employ culturally relevant pedagogy and active learning that leads to equitable student learning outcomes for all students
    • Experience overseeing student advisement
