Search for the Provost

St. Edward’s University

Austin, Texas

St. Edward’s University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) characterized by its commitment to the Holy Cross educational mission, seeks an innovative, collaborative and strategic academic leader to serve as Provost and lead the university into a new era of academic excellence. In July 2021, St Edward’s welcomed a new president, Montserrat “Montse” Fuentes, a native of Spain and the first Hispanic president to lead St. Edward’s. She has already embarked on a new strategic planning process for the university. The Provost will join the university at the perfect moment to work closely with a dedicated and passionate campus community to find new and thoughtful ways to educate the hearts and minds of a diverse student body that is deeply committed to social justice and making a large impact on the world. The Provost will be a key player advancing St. Edward’s liberal arts and professional and graduate programs as it continues on its upward trajectory of excellence in Austin, Texas, one of the most dynamic cities in the United States.

St. Edward’s has experienced a steady and impressive transformation, and the Provost will help ensure the university continues on its path to remain competitive in a changing higher education landscape and supports an increasingly diverse student body. In recent years, St. Edward’s has added multiple graduate and professional programs to its strong undergraduate portfolio and inclusive excellence initiatives for student and faculty success. For the future, the university has set forth priority clusters for new programs: creative economy, health and wellness, and global stewardship.

A high-achieving and mission-driven faculty provide excellent instruction, mentoring, and innovative curriculum development and are committed to the social mobility of students. The city of Austin provides a vibrant backdrop to the university, serving as a hub for talent and innovation as one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities, and St. Edwards has built strong partnerships with the community and with industry, though there are still many untapped opportunities and possibilities that are waiting to be discovered.

St. Edward’s University offers a distinct educational opportunity that combines a vibrant and diverse community of learners and dedicated faculty and staff committed to student success and academic excellence in one of the fastest growing cities of America. St. Edward’s is pursuing an ambitious future of growth as the university seeks distinction and success, and members from across the university community are working together to plan the next era of success by developing Strategic Plan 2027, with a focus on providing a transformative educational experience by continuing their evolution as a thriving liberal arts university. The conclusion of the planning process will be in Winter 2022. For more information, see
