Position Available: MiraCosta College’s Nursing and Allied Health Department invites applications for one equity-minded, full-time (10 months per year), tenure-track faculty position beginning in August 2022. Principle responsibilities will include instruction, curriculum development, classroom preparation, student evaluation, departmental activities, and collegial governance (i.e., institutional service). The person selected for this position may be assigned to any district facility during any hours of operation. The person selected will share leadership roles with other full-time instructors in coordinating and developing curriculum and using culturally-responsive pedagogical techniques and in coordinating the overall program. MiraCosta College requires that all employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to promote a safe and healthful workplace for employees and to promote the health and safety of our campus community. Unvaccinated employees are at greater risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19 within the workplace and to the college community that depends on college programs and services. Compensation: Initial salary placement is based on education and experience and ranges from $79,588 (class I, step 1) to $133,238 (class VI-doctorate, step 10) on the 2022-2023 Annual Salary Schedule. MiraCosta College offers a comprehensive package of benefits, which includes employer-paid medical, dental, and vision plans for employee and dependents; $100,000 employee life insurance; and other optional coverages. Faculty members are also covered under the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS).
To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:
1. a current California LVN or RN license;
2. a bachelor’s degree (or higher) AND two (2) years of professional experience as a LVN or RN in practice and/or in teaching (either full time or equivalent part time); OR
an associate degree AND six (6) years of professional experience as a LVN or RN in practice and/or in teaching (either full time or equivalent part time);
3. IMPORTANT: you must meet one of the following:
a) At least one (1) year of verifiable experience as a licensed nurse providing care and services to chronically ill or elderly patients in an acute care hospital, skilled nursing facility, intermediate care facility, home care, hospice care, or other long-term care setting; OR
b) at least one (1) year of work experience as a Director of Staff Development in a long-term care facility; OR
c) approval from the California Department of Public Health to teach CNA classes.
4. IMPORTANT: you must meet one of the following:
a) Completion of a course in teaching adults (verifiable in your attached transcripts or certificate of completion); OR
b) one (1) year of verifiable experience in teaching adults; OR
c) one (1) year of verifiable experience supervising nurse aides.
5. a fully satisfied, lifetime California Community College credential authorizing instruction/service in the appropriate subject matter;
6. demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
