(Archived) Counselor/Teaching Assistant

Last Updated: 2/22/22

Job Description

This summer, change the lives of middle school students from underserved backgrounds with exceptional talent in math.

Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM), a project of the Art of Problem Solving Initiative, Inc., is seeking undergraduate students or recent graduates to be counselors and teaching assistants for a summer program that gives everyone a chance to excel in mathematics. During summer 2022, we will run two programs: BEAM Summer Away and BEAM Discovery.

At both programs, you'll create a vibrant social experience for kids who are discovering for the first time that there are other people who like doing mathematics; you'll also be a TA for classes on topics such as number theory, combinatorics, problem solving, and computer science. Be a role model and guide for students who are just beginning to set their educational path!

Counselors must be strong mathematically, be reliable, and take initiative. They should be charismatic and able to help the kids have fun. All counselors must be at least 18 years old by the beginning of the program. In addition, applicants must be authorized to work for an employer in the US. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time. International students able to obtain CPT or OPT are welcome to apply.

Covid-19 Note: While our intention is to hold our programs in person, we reserve the right to hold our programs virtually for the Summer of 2022 depending on community spread of COVID-19. We will continue to monitor the situation and give updates as needed.

Priority Deadline to Apply: March 31, 2022. Applications received after the priority deadline will be reviewed on a rolling basis until roles are filled. We recommend drafting responses to the application question in a separate document (ex: Word or Google Doc) so you can save your progress before submitting.
