Job Summary

The role of the Academic Advisor is to guide and counsel undergraduate students on meeting the academic requirements for successful completion of their degree in the COB as well as university academic policies and procedures. Additionally, the incumbent provides vital support for programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing the academic achievement and retention of COB's undergraduate students. The Academic Advisor also collaborates with the Director of the COB's Student Success Center in managing various student initiatives.
Key Responsibilities

  • Independently advises undergraduate students about academic requirements.
  • Assists with the coordination of COB's student initiatives programming.
  • Serves as a COB referral source for other college and student group advising units, the Learning Assistance Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Career Development Center, and other academic and student service offices on campus.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Proven experience working with students, parents, faculty, and staff.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, professional demeanor and ability to be a team player.

  • Exhibits strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Exhibits excellent organizational skills, prioritizes responsibilities, and meets project deadlines.

  • Exhibits strong critical and creative thinking skills, sound decision making and objectivity.

  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, is desired.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
    Education and Experience

    Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two (2) years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required. Demonstrated experience in academic advising in a college/vocational setting, preferred.
    Physical Summary

    Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

    Compensation

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,610 - $6,556 per month

    Time Base

    Full-time temporary position for one (1) year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
