Job Description

Overview:
The
McKeown School of Education is seeking an assistant director of community initiatives to assist in developing, implementing, and assessing of the new para-to-teach and the established educator scholars of color programs. This individual works to fulfill the goals of the college and honor the mission of the university while positively impacting the experience of education students. The assistant director leverages co-curricular, retention, and community development practices and works collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders and community partners. This is a full-time, year-round position and may include evening and weekend commitments. The assistant director reports to the McKeown School Associate Dean.

Please Note: This is a grant-funded position and continued employment is contingent upon on-going grant funding.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree, in higher education/student affairs or related field
  • 3-5 years of full-time professional experience in a high school, college/university setting or full-time in a college-readiness or other program designed to support students from underrepresented communities
  • Experience working with access or success initiatives

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Evidence of strong written and communication skills
  • Experience developing and sustaining productive collaborative relationships with colleagues (faculty and staff) in support of student success
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current research, theory and exemplary practices related to first-generation college students
  • Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese

Office activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and interaction with computer equipment; occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 5-10 pounds.

Ability to work a flexible schedule according to departmental needs, which may include occasional evenings and weekends. Local travel required.

Potential for Hybrid Work:The potential hybrid work model will be developed and reassessed periodically by the supervisor. During the initial year of employment, detailed plans and policies will be developed, to include reserved office space on campus. Applicants should be aware the position will be expected to be primarily in person and in the office during times of high demand, with opportunities to work remotely up to 20%, during low demand periods so long that it can effectively meet the mission of the university and responsibilities of this position.
