Assistant Teaching Professor of Business Law (Faculty)

Ball State University

Applications are welcome for an Assistant Teaching Professor of Business Law.

The Department of Finance and Insurance has available a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor position starting August 18, 2023. The new hire will teach Business Law (BL260), a course required for all MCOB students, and at least one of the following courses: Estate Planning (BL367), Insurance Law (RMI 473) and Real Estate Law (RE230), and engage in professional and university service activities and scholarship.

  1. Teaching load:

The teaching load is 12 hours/week each semester on campus. Some courses may be delivered online or in a hybrid format.

  1. Professional Activity and Scholarship:

Maintain currency in business law by engaging in the required professional activities and / or scholarship, needed for a faculty qualification status.

  1. Service:

Serve on committees, participate in student advising and community outreach, and generally contribute professional service to the university.

The Department of Finance and Insurance, part of the Miller College of Business, an AACSB accredited college of business, offers degrees in Finance and Risk Management & Insurance (RMI) and minors in Banking, Financial Planning, and RMI. The curriculum provides opportunities for our students to pursue certifications in Certified Financial Planning (CFP), Certified Financial Analyst (CFA), as well as earning credit towards certifications for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), and Certified Risk Manager (CRM). Seniors in our Portfolio Management class are offered the unique opportunity to get hands-on experience in managing an investment fund of $1.9 million value.

Position Function:

Minimum Qualifications: Juris Doctorate or related law degree from an accredited college or university.

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications: Relevant professional experience related to the legal environment of business; prior teaching experience in business law; interest in teaching estate planning, financial literacy, insurance law or real estate.
