Job Summary
The Division of Administration and Finance has an immediate opening for a Staff Equity and Inclusion Advisor. This position will act in an advisory capacity with the goal of promoting equitable hiring and retention practices. This will be accomplished through providing guidance to the division community, creating equity-related training and materials, assisting in establishing clear metrics, and collaborating with the Division of Administration and Finance leadership regarding equity issues and recruitments. You will be part of a department that embraces DEI and a cohort across campus doing this work on the recruitment and day-to-day HR level.
Key Responsibilities
70% Human Resources/Recruiting Advisor
- Acts in an advisory capacity to promote equitable hiring and retention practices for staff.
- Provides guidance for divisional Staff, Management Personnel Plan (MPP), and Associate Vice President (AVP) recruitments.
- Participates in the development of and delivers required DEI training for all individuals sitting on staff hiring committees.
- Assists departments with the development of interview questions and position descriptions to ensure the elimination of bias.
- Finds new avenues to recruit underrepresented groups through outreach and advertising.
- Provides resume screening guidance to departments.
- Sits on committees for divisional MPP/AVP recruitments as either a formal committee member or as an observer to provide feedback and guidance.
- Provides advice during reviews of finalist candidates to ensure diverse representation.
- Responsible for reviewing and updating relevant HR materials annually to ensure that they are up-to-date and following best practices with respect to equity.
- Interacts with various affinity groups on campus to receive feedback and to provide information regarding our campus processes. Attends campus affinity group meetings and other DEI related committees, including President's Equity and Change Commission.
- Works with the Learning and Development Manager to create and deliver new courses related to bias and equity for the division and overall campus community.
25% Divisional Equity Advocate
- Provides equity-related training and materials to divisional staff/faculty.
- Collaborate with other areas on campus with equity perspective or specializations to deliver presentations.
- Assists DAF leadership with establishing clear metrics related to equity and assists with the development of equity plans to meet the goals for each DAF area.
- Provides guidance and collaboration to DAF leadership and management when equity issues arise.
- Collaborates with other equity team members across the campus to learn and share new approaches, and to ensure our division is following best practices.
5% Other duties as assigned
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Strong background in recruiting, equity/diversity practices, and training. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with a wide range of individuals throughout the campus. Ability to handle multiple priorities and to provide consistent, objective, and ethical decisions. Strong understanding of technology and its application to daily activities. Strong consultative skills - ability to articulate reasons for the campus actions. Applied knowledge of HR principles, methods, and related state and federal laws/regulations. Able to prepare and present to large groups in a persuasive and positive manner. Ability to learn and apply University policies, procedures and guidelines including information security and non-discrimination. Organizational acumen, results orientation, ability to make and implement decisions, persuasive speaking and writing skills, analytical skills, negotiation skills, judgment, coaching and systems thinking. Excellent public relations skills and professionalism.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
- Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field required.
- 5 years of progressively responsible experience in human resources, recruiting, equity/diversity practices, and training is required.
- Experience within the California State University system or another institution of public higher education is highly preferred.

Hiring Range: The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Additional Information
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
