Job Summary
The Classification & Compensation Analyst performs a variety of classification and compensation duties for the office of Staff Human Resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Classification and Compensation Program Administration.
- Conduct classification and compensation reviews of new and existing positions. Utilize the classification standards, market survey data, and other CSULB and CSU positions to classify various staff positions objectively and appropriately throughout the campus.
- Assist with the maintenance of the MPP Salary survey database.
- Track and maintain all Temporary Reassignments, Training Reassignments, and In-Range Progression requests.
Ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with employees, managers, and administrators at all levels throughout the campus. Ability to discuss sensitive topics which require the explanation and application of campus policies and procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality on all work assignments. Ability to run standard reports and create and utilize new queries from enterprise system (e.g., in PeopleSoft) Advanced skills in and knowledge of English, grammar, spelling, and punctuation to be used in a wide range of formats including but not limited to drafting correspondence, administrative guidelines, email communications, business process guides, classification studies, compensation studies, power point presentations, and other training materials.
Through knowledge of various software programs including word processing, database, spreadsheet, and PDF programs. Ability to create a wide variety of reports on demand. Advanced knowledge of Excel with the ability to create complex spreadsheets which include the use of formula driven features and the ability to create charts to present data. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work under pressure with constant interruptions. Ability to review detailed records in order to analyze information and identify discrepancies. Ability to efficiently and accurately track and complete paperwork. Ability to track and complete multiple short-term and long-term projects that require a high degree of analysis and accuracy in a fast-paced environment. Ability to interpret collective bargaining agreements as they pertain to classification and compensation issues. Self-starter, willingness to “roll-up sleeves” to get things done.
Ability to identify and resolve problems independently, to learn new processes and procedures, and take a proactive approach to process improvement. Demonstrated ability to research and analyze job duties and other information objectively and without bias. Demonstrated ability to clearly support and articulate recommendations, decisions, policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements both orally and in writing.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
- Equivalent to a bachelor's degree plus two years of related human resources experience required.
- Previous experience working in a collective bargaining environment and an educational setting preferred.

Compensation
Hiring Range: Up to $54,000/year. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,058 - $7,407 per month.
Benefits

Time Base
Full-time temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
