Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Engineering and Electrical Services and the immediate supervision of the Supervising Building Service Engineer, maintains, services, repairs, and inspects heating, ventilating, mechanical, and air conditioning systems, and the mechanical, plumbing, electrical and electronic systems associated with the decentralized utilities centers located throughout the campus and the Central Plant facility.
Key Responsibilities

  • HVAC and mechanical systems
  • Emergency repairs to steam, natural gas, water, refrigerant, air and oil distribution systems.
  • Conduct a variety of electrical services and maintenance
Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of HVAC systems for central and decentralized building plants and of building temperature control systems including electric, electronic and pneumatic controls. Up-to-date facilities maintenance procedures, including all types of plumping systems, electric motor control systems including electric motor control operations and water treatment systems. Excellent communication skills required to interface with the campus community to complete written work and to interact positively with co-workers and supervisor. Professional image and demeanor important. Trade related higher education desirable, CFC certification. Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills. Experience working in a university or institutional setting. Maintains a safe environment. Communicates with the University community in a civil manner.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience

Equivalent to a high school diploma and two (2) years of journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler, heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment and systems required. Four (4) years of experience is preferred.

A valid California driver's license is required.

Compensation

The salary range for this classification is $6,151 to $7,942 per month.

Time Base

Full-time temporary position for three (3) years with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
