Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Associate Dean, the Pre-Award Specialist serves as a facilitator and provides institutional oversight for all external grant/contract proposals and submittal on behalf of CHHS.
Key Responsibilities

  • Pre-Award Grant Administration: Provides direct guidance and assistance in the preparation of grant/contract proposals and related processing requirements.
  • Track status and ensures submission by ORED all proposed CHHS grants.
  • Researches, develops maintains current knowledge of electronic submission requirements and procedures for external funding sources funding.
  • Investigates the availability of funding opportunities.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Patience and communication skills are a must. Must be able to handle various deadlines and delayed acquisition of required proposal elements. Ability to demonstrate a strong interest in working in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment with frequent deadline pressures; highly developed communication and interpersonal skills required, including strong writing skills and the ability to interact with faculty, administrators, co-workers, and external agencies. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office including Access and Excel. Experience in word-processing systems for written communication and must be able to effectively edit and revise written content of proposals upon request; prior hand-on experience with grants.gov, Fastlane and other web-based proposal submission products preferred. Must be able to prioritize workload, demonstrate a professional demeanor at all times, interact positively and cooperatively with others, and be a team player. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse and high-level group of individuals in a diplomatic and professional manner and a strong commitment to customer service and open communication.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of three (3) years of related experience with grant/contract development at a comparable level, in sponsored programs/contracts office or department (pre-award experience preferred) in a university, hospital, or other research setting required.

Compensation

Hiring Range: $4,170 - $6,701 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,170 - $7,545 per month

Excellent benefits through CalPERS (health, vision, dental), tuition fee waiver, generous vacation and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays each year.
Time Base

Full-time temporary position for one (1) year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
