Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Advising Center Director, advise undergraduate CHHS students in accordance with university guidelines regarding general education, major, and graduation requirements. This role supports other Advisors and Advising leadership with projects that support student enrollment and success, such as administrative work and workshops. While generally supporting student success, this Advisor will focus on incoming and first-year students. This role is in a trainee capacity and is intended to be a 1-year advising position designed for an entry-level professional who is new to the academic advising profession.
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advising to CHHS undergraduate students regarding CSULB rules and regulations, General Education, and pre-major/major requirements to ensure student success and timely graduation.
  • Assist with administrative work and projects that promote new student enrollment, academic progress, and degree progress.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Ability to advise students with knowledge of the General Education curriculum, majors/minors, and the registration/advising systems used at CSULB. Ability to operate independently and as a team member of a high traffic, high demand student-centered office/program. Ability to effectively use and operate computer systems/platforms, e-mail, Internet, and university CMS, CS Link, and EAB systems. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Experience with Peer Advising, Mentoring, Academic Advising, or other student support programming in a college setting is preferred, including student jobs and volunteer work.

Compensation

Hiring Range: $3,764 - $4,184 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,764 - $4,604 per month

Time Base

Full-time temporary position for one (1) year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
