Job Summary
This position performs complex student and student organization advisement, leadership training, and major event supervision in order to maximize opportunities for co-curricular student involvement and enhance retention of students. The incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, advise, and develop student organizations.
- Advises assigned student organizations with regard to program planning, including goal setting, establishing time-lines for complex programs, budgeting and fundraising, monitoring, approving and securing Associated Student Grants, volunteer recruitment and development, interpretation and enforcement of relevant University policies and procedures, program implementation and evaluation.
- Uses counseling skills to provide conflict mediation regarding sensitive issues for student organization members, among student leaders and faculty advisors, or administrators over sensitive issues.
- Designs and presents a variety of leadership training opportunities for emerging and continuing student leaders within student organizations and students in general.
Knowledge of student development theories and ability to apply theories to student leadership development. Demonstrated experience working in a university setting advising student clubs and organizations and developing and planning out of classroom co-curricular activities and programs for college students. Demonstrated experience handling sensitive matters involving groups or individuals with tact and discretion. Demonstrated programming skills, preferably in student leadership. Demonstrated experience to plan for and manage simultaneous complex projects.
Demonstrated experience problem-solving across University departments and with external governing bodies. Experience with on-site monitoring of complex student programs with large attendance. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and maintain a positive and respectful attitude. Familiarity with standard word processing, database and spreadsheet software for PC.
Familiarity with presentation software such as PowerPoint. Evidence of proactive programming for diverse populations. Ability to speak in public. Experience giving presentations. Ability to exercise sound time management skills and control of projects and work pro-actively to mitigate delays, budget problems and any additional complications that my jeopardize operations of unit.
Ability to manage, organize and demonstrate command of complex and continuously changing array of information, dates, places and people in a systematic way in order to optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort in the process of completing projects. Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations procedures etc. to define the problem, identify the relevant issues, and generate reasonable and appropriate alternatives or solutions. Proficiency in using PC computers utilizing programs such as Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, etc.). Working knowledge of standard safe work practices. Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required. Master's in Counseling, student personnel or other related social sciences highly preferred.

Compensation
The salary range for this classification is $4,610 to $6,556 per month.

Time Base
Full-time temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
