Ball State Universities’ Indiana Communities Institute is welcoming applications for a new Community Development Program Manager.
We seek candidates with experience working with a variety of partners and community groups. Candidates who have a specialty in comprehensive community economic development are strongly preferred. We envision this position working closely with the Director of Program Development and Training to develop, design, promote, and implement community economic development initiatives of the Indiana Communities Institute including the ICI Academy, community-specific training programs, and community-based projects.

Position Function: Perform management duties related to comprehensive community economic development education, training, consultative, and community-based duties under the supervision of the Director of Program Development and Training. Provide support in developing, promoting, facilitating, delivering, and evaluating comprehensive community economic development services including training and community-based programs. Identify and cultivate relationships with stakeholders in community economic development including local and state officials, civic organization leaders, corporate partners, practitioners, and researchers. Assist with Indiana Communities Institute efforts to identify, integrate, and implement, comprehensive community economic development research, practice, and policy to ensure Ball State University remains a leading resource for communities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- At least five years of experience working with neighborhoods, communities, counties, and/or regions in support of comprehensive community economic development.
- Experience in community and/or economic development planning and facilitation.
- Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs.
- Experience in community outreach and engagement.
- Experience in project management, including managing timelines, budgets, and key deliverables.
- Experience in presentation design and public speaking.
- Excellent Internet and traditional research skills.
- Demonstrated ability to employ analytical skills including the ability to organize and integrate seemingly unrelated data.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to work effectively with limited supervision and exhibit sound independent judgment and decisions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of economic and community development practices and principles;
- Ability to work effectively with divergent groups.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, be insurable under the auto fleet policy, and be willing and able to travel.
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, planning, business, economics, sociology, community development, and/or communications from an accredited institution.
- Experience working with a variety of partners and community groups.
- Experience handling diverse perspectives and differing motivations.
- Experience identifying and effectively communicating messaging and stories to various audiences using a variety of mediums, social media in particular.
- Established community economic development and/or civic organization relationships at the local and/or state level.
- Proficiency in economic development databases, economic impact analysis software, Geographic Information Systems, statistical analysis software, social media management platforms.
