JOB SUMMARY: The Department of Music, Dance and Theatre invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty appointment in New Jersey City University’s William J. Maxwell College of Arts and Sciences as an assistant professor commencing September 1, 2022.
EDUCATION: D.M.A. (Doctor of Musical Arts) or Ph.D. in Music / Music Industry or Music Business preferred. Candidates with a Master's Degree in Music (MM) and exceptional accomplishments in the field may be considered.
EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate would be an established performer and/or songwriter with experience in self-promotion and entrepreneurship and a knowledge of recording software and the music industry in general. The successful candidate will have experience in music administration, management, marketing, copyright law, and tour promotion. The candidate also will be expected to demonstrate and develop connections within the music industry globally. A primary responsibility will be the recruitment and development of the Music Business/Music Industry/Commercial Music area. Administrative duties include curricular development and oversight, student registration and retention, course scheduling, organizing off-campus opportunities for student performances, coordinating student and faculty touring opportunities, and finding internship opportunities that offer students relevant professional experience. Candidates should provide evidence of excellence in teaching and an active research / performance agenda that would involve undergraduate and graduate students at a diverse urban comprehensive university.
