Chairperson of the Department of Marketing

Ball State University

The Department of Marketing in the Miller College of Business at Ball State University is seeking an experienced, senior-level professional to chair the Department. The candidate will possess a record of teaching and scholarship appropriate for tenured appointment at full or associate professor rank, and administrative experience which will support appointment as department chair. The department chair reports to the Dean of the Miller College and is responsible for managing academic, operational, personnel, budgetary, and student activities within the Department. The ideal candidate will be capable in mentoring junior faculty, advocating for the Department, and expanding relationships with alumni, businesses, and community stakeholders. This position offers an opportunity to work with energetic and collegial faculty and staff, and align with current university and college strategic priorities. Prospective start date is July 1, 2023.

Position Function: Serve as chairperson of the department; teach 9 hours during the academic year, and engage in research and service.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD or DBA in Marketing or a closely related business discipline from an AACSB accredited graduate program.
  • Minimum of five years of tenure-line faculty service and two years of administrative experience which may include, but is not limited to:
    • course scheduling
    • faculty recruiting and mentoring
    • preparation of policy documents
    • management of an advisory board
    • service on college level committees
    • management of budgets
    • curriculum management and faculty performance assessment
  • Evidence of leadership and communication skills;
  • Evidence of effective team building skills;
  • Scholarship record commensurate with appointment at senior-level academic rank.
