The Fresno State Library seeks three innovative, flexible, and public service-oriented individuals to join our faculty in developing and providing user-focused library services that support teaching, research, and student success. These full-time, tenure-track librarians will serve as subject librarians to departments in the Colleges of Health and Human Services, Science and Mathematics, and Social Sciences. Depending on expertise and interest, those hired for these positions could also be assigned responsibility for the library's Government Information and/or Maps and Aerial Photographs collections. Specific assignments are dependent on departmental needs and the backgrounds of the individuals. These positions will provide an excellent opportunity for professional growth and for those interested in collaborating to develop services to meet the needs of a diverse campus community.

Primary responsibilities include: collaborating with colleagues in developing and providing a broad range of services and activities to designated departments; teaching information literacy concepts to undergraduates and graduate students; designing and creating outreach and instructional materials; providing in-person and online research assistance in a range of disciplines; participating in collection management; and promoting knowledge of scholarly communication and Fresno State's digital repository. Librarians are active participants in the shared governance of the library and in the academic life of the campus. The successful candidates will be members of the library faculty and will be expected to meet all of the requirements for retention, tenure and promotion, including scholarship and service to the campus and the community. Tenure-track librarians receive an official probationary plan, mentoring, and professional development funding.

Required Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.):

  1. An MLS from an ALA accredited library school/institution (or equivalent) is required by the time of appointment. Anticipated start dates are Summer/Fall 2023.

Required Experience:
  1. Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with instruction, information literacy, and student learning outcomes.
  3. Documentation of strong public service orientation and knowledge of or experience with reference service and research consultation.
  4. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with trends in librarianship and scholarly communication.

Preferred Experience:
  1. Experience working in an academic library environment.
  2. Experience with and/or knowledge of design and delivery of instruction using a range of modalities, approaches, and technologies.
  3. Proficiency in multiple modes of reference service and research consultation.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a complex, changing environment.
  5. Subject knowledge or experience in natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, social sciences, health sciences and/or human services.
  6. Experience working with government information or maps and aerial photographs.
  7. Experience with outreach programs and services.
  8. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
