Job Description

Ball State University welcomes application for a Teen Works Academic Advisor. This person will provide focused academic support and embrace and apply proactive advising strategies. Additionally, the advisor will support students in understanding and meeting academic requirements, promote strategies for student success, and facilitate communication between assigned students and academic departments. Position Function: Serve as the primary academic advisor for all TeenWorks@BSU participants. This advisor will provide focused academic support and embrace and apply proactive/intrusive advising strategies. Additionally, the advisor will support students in understanding and meeting academic requirements; assist students in maintaining state-mandated four-year degree maps; promote other university services; facilitate communication between assigned students and departments; and participate in appropriate events.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited University by date of appointment. Two years of experience in academic advising, student services, counseling, higher education, or related field. Ability to work with faculty, administration, and undergraduate students; ability to work in a collaborative environment and work independently; ability to design and execute targeted student programming; understanding of retention practices; sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population; ability to act as an advocate for both the student and the University; ability to identify students’ needs for support services in order to make appropriate referrals; ability to maintain confidentiality; interpersonal/human relations skills.
