Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES: The department of Fire Science invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty appointment as assistant professor in Fire Science. The appointment will commence in 1 September, 2022.

  • Ability to teach all courses
  • Advise students and assist with registration as needed
  • Actively participate as a member of the faculty: attends departmental, college and university-wide meetings as required
  • Organize and coordinate continuing education activities
  • Use knowledge of diverse communities and skill sets to diversify teaching methods and delivery of content in instruction.
  • Participate in assessment activities to assist students in achieving designated course objectives or learning outcomes.
  • Develop and access course curriculum and instructional materials

EDUCATION: Master’s degree from an accredited university

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of ten years of career fire service experience.


  • Teaching and/or training experience that incorporates collaborative and active learning strategies
  • Demonstrated technological skills and abilities
  • Ability to cultivate and effectively work with external constituencies
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Evidence of published works and or presentations and professional meetings.
  • NJ Fire Instructor Level I or equivalent


  • Experience with student centered teaching and learning methodology
  • College level instruction experience
  • NJ Fire Instructor Level II or equivalent
  • Commitment to diversity among faculty, staff and students.
  • Master’s Degree in Fire Science or related fields
