The Office of the Chancellor supports the Chancellor’s leadership by providing administrative, organizational, communications support and strategy development and services to advance the Chancellor’s vision and to execute campus priorities as identified in UC San Diego’s first-ever strategic plan.

The Office is recruiting for the next Chancellor Initiatives Administrative Officer to serve as a primary partner with the Associate Chancellor/Chief of Staff and the Associate Chancellor in the execution of a wide range of activities involving interaction with campus senior leadership to further the Chancellor’s initiatives, using sound judgment, tact and the highest level of professionalism to handle sensitive and confidential projects and issues in support ensuring the successful completion of projects. Maintains a comprehensive database of initiatives and action items, assigning tasks to senior leaders and central administrative offices to ensure timely and successful completion. Uses strong analytical skills to determine approach and responses to the challenges in a fast-paced executive office. Serves as campus liaison with inquiries and requests requiring special Chancellor handling and exception.

Responsible for administering recruitment of UC San Diego senior management reporting to the Chancellor. Plans and manages the five-year administrative review committee process. Oversees financial operations for the Chancellor's Executive Office, ensuring adherence to established budget and UC and UC San Diego policies. Provides work direction to administrative staff on financial transactions and office management. Undertakes unique, special projects which are highly sensitive and confidential in nature.

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures; researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Primarily deals with policies, programs and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Develops new programs, policies or procedures for possible implementation.

• Demonstrated experience participating on policy and planning committees and working groups.

• Demonstrated experience providing strategy development for organizational initiatives.

• Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data from various sources for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills with ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions.

• Exceptional organization and presentation skills to research, summarize and present information and recommendations for action. Ability to complete work in a timely, accurate and succinct manner.

• Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.

• Ability to determine workload priorities and to provide work direction for overall office effort to ensure accomplishment of objectives in a timely manner.

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with varied units across the campus, encouraging voluntary participation in all aspects of the planning and execution of events at which volunteers would be involved.

• Demonstrated experience to review, approve and process business expenses.

• Bachelor's degree in a related area with 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience/training.


• Demonstrated experience in the University's hiring and recruitment processes for staff ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
