The Department of Behavioral Health and Nutrition (BHAN) in the College of Health Sciences (CHS) at the University of Delaware (UD) seeks an innovative and highly motivated candidate for a 9-month, open-rank, tenured/tenure-track faculty appointment in nutritional epidemiology to join an award-winning faculty. The candidate must have earned a doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, DrPH) in a relevant field such as nutrition, epidemiology, or public health, completed a postdoctoral experience, and have an active program of research at the time of appointment. Primary responsibilities include leading a nationally visible, funded research program in nutritional epidemiology; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in epidemiology and nutrition; supervising MS and PhD students; and service activities within and outside of the University. Faculty candidates are expected to describe their approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion in
their teaching, research, and service.
GENERAL INFORMATION: BHAN (https://www.udel.edu/academics/colleges/chs/departments/bhan/) is a thriving academic unit of over 30 faculty, approximately 750 undergraduate students and 60 graduate students. The Department includes undergraduate programs in Nutrition and Dietetics, Nutrition and Medical Sciences, Nutrition, and Health Behavior Science. Graduateprograms include a PhD in Nutrition Science, MS in Human Nutrition, MS/DI MS in Nutrition and Dietetics/Dietetic Internship, a PhD in Health Behavior Science and Promotion, a MS in Health Promotion, and post- baccalaureate Clinical Health Coaching certificate. BHAN is known for rapidly growing research, dynamic teaching, student engagement, and departmental collaborations. The Nutrition Counseling, Research and Training Clinic (NCRTC) is part of BHAN and provides medical nutrition therapy services to the community while engaging in innovative research initiatives and training students to be future nutrition professionals. The CHS is an innovative, interdisciplinary college of more than 3,000 students and 150 faculty. CHS includes departments of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, Medical and Molecular Sciences, Physical Therapy, Epidemiology and the School of Nursing. CHS has teaching and research facilities throughout the campus, including the state-of-the-art UD Health Sciences Complex on the University’s Science Technology & Advanced Research (STAR) Campus. The first UD building at STAR opened in January 2014 and the Tower at STAR opened in Fall 2018, providing 170,000 sq. ft. of research, meeting, collaboration and educational space. The Tower also includes virtual reality simulation space and an adaptive living apartment complete with sensor technology. The Tower’s state-of-the-art spaces promote interprofessional education and training as well as research leading to the development of new devices, techniques and interventions. The STAR Campus fosters connections to the community, linking the community to the inter-professional training of our students and collaborative research between faculty and clinicians.
