Education and Experience Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in related field. Two to three years of experience in a related field. Experience with international travel and college level interaction with students desired. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.
Nature & Purpose of Position
|Provides administration and oversight of all responsibilities for the development, growth and maintenance of Sam Houston State University’s Study Abroad Program.|
Oversees, establishes, implements, and maintains daily office functions, academic policies, and procedures of the office in collaboration with the Director of Office of International Programs (OIP) and other University departments. Participates in strategic planning and program assessment to assess and improve processes. Assists in the revision of program policies and procedures. Oversees all study abroad programs and programming, including the National Student Exchange (NSE). Collaborates with faculty leaders across campus. Oversees all communication with students and faculty to facilitate study abroad participation. Serves as NSE Coordinator. Oversees Study Abroad course approval process. Oversees the implementation of new study abroad initiatives as outlined in the Study Abroad strategic plan. Oversees all study abroad advising. Works closely with the Study Abroad Advisor to ensure advisement for enrolled and perspective study abroad students on academic and cultural issues related to study abroad programs and destinations. Oversees the design and coordination of all student and faculty orientations and information sessions. Oversees the management of incoming exchanges and visiting students, including application processing, communication, orientation, and advising support during study. Oversees the development and implementation of a recruitment/marketing strategy. Stays current on market trends and best practices. Works with the study abroad team to market study abroad programs across campus. Oversees outreach and recruiting events, including fairs, information sessions, and off/on campus events. Maintains and improves communication with other University departments. Represents the Study Abroad Office by serving on committees across campus. Manages and oversees the Study Abroad budget. Supervises study abroad staff and student workers. Develops, leads, organizes, and implements professional development, training, and team building activities. Assists in facilitating new partnerships with foreign universities. Works as part of a team with the Office of International Program staff on a variety of initiatives. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Ability to manage business functions.
Communicates with other University departments, personnel, and other agencies. This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
