Job Description

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, (UTK) invites applications and nominations for our Coordinator-Diversity Recruitment & Outreach (Nashville) position. We are seeking candidates who can contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University.

The Enrollment Management (EM) division comprises more than 150 full-time staff who serve our students through the following departments and functions: Undergraduate Admissions, International Recruitment, Transfer Center, One Stop Student Services, Financial Aid & Scholarships, University Registrar, Enrollment Management Communications, Enrollment Management Research & Analytics and Enrollment Management Operations.

Functions and Responsibilities:

This position develops and coordinates strategic recruitment and early outreach initiatives designed to attract competitive in-state students. Assists with establishing in-state recruitment goals by leveraging data from assessments (ACT & SAT) and WITCHE to develop recruitment plans and conduct market analysis. This data driven approach informs territory, and overall recruitment goals, and ultimately drives planning and strategy to achieve the University’s enrollment goals. Counsels a diverse set of prospective students and parents. Represents UTK and Undergraduate Admissions at recruitment events. Coordinates and manages schedule of travel, visits, and general office duties. Holistically reviews prospective student applications for admission. This position will be based in Nashville, and have a recruitment territory focused on Middle Tennessee and support states in close proximity. The position will also work on the Diversity Recruitment and Outreach Team to lead the UT Department of Enrollment management in executing inclusive admission and outreach efforts.


Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree

Professional experience in admissions, counseling, teaching or advising at a primary, secondary school, or regionally accredited college or university.

Experience giving oral presentations.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Experience working with diverse populations.

Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, data driven decision making and relationship building.

Territory management, report building and maintenance, and the use of data driven decision making for planning and strategy development.

Experience communicating effectively with students and families from broadly diverse socioeconomic and sociocultural backgrounds.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Attention to detail, writing, listening and interpersonal skills.

Ability to independently and strategically plan visits, events and presentations for prospective students.

Ability to lift, transport and distribute objects up to 40 pounds.

Oral presentation/public speaking skills.

Knowledge of university admissions process.

Ability to problem solve and research solutions.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of university travel policies.

Ability to work with new technologies to enhance recruitment.

Ability to communicate effectively with primary and secondary school aged youth.

Ability to speak an additional language beyond English fluently.
