Burris Laboratory School welcomes applications for Director of Special Services.

Burris Laboratory School was established to provide a stellar K-12 educational environment in which pre-service teachers from Ball State University observe and provide learning opportunities for students with highly effective teachers using innovative instructional strategies aligned with Indiana standards.

The Burris Director of Special services will provide leadership, support, and innovative training to teachers and staff who work with students with disabilities. To remain current in special education law and trends in order to provide students with disabilities a free and appropriate public education as well as the richest and most equitable educational experience the school can provide. Analysis and interpretation of student data. Work with staff on the interpretation of student data to ensure mastery of learning.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from a regionally accredited university by date of employment; obtain an emergency license by date of employment, if needed. At least three years of building level teaching experience in special education.


Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications: Masters or doctorate degree from a regionally accredited university in special education or related education field. Indiana certification for Special Education Director, Superintendent License, or Building Administrator. Working toward, hold or be eligible to hold Indiana certification for Director of Special Education licensure and other certification appropriate to the assignment. Three years of experience as a Special Education Director or Central Office Administrator or Building level K-12 principal. Three years of building level teaching experience and experience working with special needs students.
